“When I tested it for myself, I was able to see my entire phone number without any censorship.”

The developer behind the super-hit Genshin Impact reportedly leaked some players’ private data, including uncensored personal phone numbers linked to Genshin accounts.

As Vice noticed, players have been reporting for weeks now that they were able to locate players’ phone numbers by searching for their usernames on the official website through the password recovery system.

“At the time I tried a few random usernames [from the Genshin Impact subreddit], and I got to see their numbers too, ”skydtlee, a Reddit user, told Vice.

“When I tested it for myself, I was able to see my full phone number without any censorship,” confirmed another player, MaitieS.

“If you were to go to the miHoYo account website; forgot password; then enter your username, the email would be partially censored. However, if you associated a mobile number, it is not NOT censored at all, ”added another commenter on Reddit six days ago.

As of now, MiHoYo has not publicly commented on the security breach and it is still unclear how many players have been affected, but some are now reporting that the issue appears to have been quietly addressed.

Genshin Impact got its first big update last week. As Wes reported at the time, Update 1.1 – dubbed A New Star Approaches – was released on November 11, 2020 for PC, Android, iOS, and PlayStation 4, and added new stories, characters, a seasonal event and reputation escape system. Free open world action RPG.

Meanwhile, miHoYo has confirmed that Genshin Impact will be playable on PlayStation 5 via backward compatibility, with “improved graphics” and faster load times.
