Georgia 6 years old dies after her brother shot her in the head

A Georgia girl died this week after her younger brother accidentally shot her in the head, police said.

Investigators said the mother of a girl identified in media reports while Millie Drew Kelly charged her with her 4-year-old brother in a car Monday at their home in Paulding County, but had not could start it. When the mother left the vehicle to see what was wrong, she heard a shot from the inside of the vehicle, they added.

"The detectives determined that the 4-year-old brother had recovered a handgun from the vehicle's console and accidentally unloaded it, hitting his six-year-old sister in the head, mortally wounding him," the office said. Paulding County Sheriff in a statement.

The girl was taken to the Atlanta hospital but died of her injuries two days later. For now, the detectives do not plan to file a complaint in this case.

"Our hearts are breaking for this family and we hope God will put his healing hands around them during this difficult time," Sheriff Gary Gulledge said in a statement. "We want to remind everyone to keep their firearms unloaded and secure in a place away from children so that it never happens again."

A GoFundMe page set up to provide financial support to the family raised more than $ 30,000 on Friday morning.
