Georgia Election Officer Announces Manual Recount of Presidential Results

In risk mitigation audits, not every ballot is necessarily reviewed for accuracy. But, due to the proximity of the presidential race, this is what will happen in every election in Georgia. Raffensperger said the margin between Biden and Trump is currently only 14,111 votes.

“When you have five million votes and the margin is so close … mathematically you actually have to do a full, manual recount of them all. [the ballots]Raffensperger said, noting that other breeds with different margins would not require a review of every bulletin.

Raffensperger has come under heavy criticism from fellow Republicans in Georgia in recent days, as GOP officials emulate Trump’s attempts to undermine confidence in the election results. Republican Representatives David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler both called on Raffensperger to step down, claiming without providing specific allegations that there had been widespread irregularities in the election.

Raffensperger had previously said he would not resign and he defended the integrity of the Georgian elections.

“It will take all the time we have left, that’s for sure. It’s a big lift, ”Raffensperger said Wednesday, noting that the state certification deadline is November 20. He noted that after the deadline, a candidate could request a recount if the margin is less than half a percentage point. But this recount would be done using scanners, not by hand.
