MARIETTA, Georgia – Election officials are investigating the actions of a Florida lawyer who they say tried to register to vote in a run-off in Georgia that will decide control of the US Senate. They say he was also captured on video urging other Floridians to do the same.
Traveling to Georgia just to vote – without intending to stay in the state afterward – may constitute a felony, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said in a statement on Thursday announcing the investigation. .
The lawyer went online and attempted to register to vote using his brother’s address in Hiram, Ga., Said Deidre Holden, the election supervisor in Paulding County, Ga. The system put his registration on hold because he did not provide a Georgian driving license number or other proof of address.
“It’s not about a Republican or a Democrat – it’s about doing what’s right,” Holden told The Associated Press Thursday. “Everyone is still shouting, ‘Elections are fraudulent’. No, we are trying to do our job. “

Raffensperger has repeatedly said there was no evidence of widespread voter fraud in the November election.
The Florida attorney told WSB-TV he was joking when he was filmed discussing the plan at a political rally on Nov. 7 in the Sunshine State. He denied any wrongdoing.
But Holden said she wanted to know if other out-of-state residents attempted to register in Georgia after being encouraged to do so at the Florida rally.
