Georgia man allegedly scammed nearly $ 1 million from grocery store

When this enterprising teenager found a job at a Georgia Kroger, he was right to work – swindling nearly a million dollars in the store during the two weeks he worked there, according to police.

Gwinnett County Police said Tre Brown, 19, scammed more than $ 980,000 at a grocery store in Duluth, Ga., Where he worked in December and January.

Brown created more than 40 returns of non-existent items and put them on credit cards, police said. Yields ranged from $ 75 to over $ 87,000.

He used the money to buy two vehicles, clothes, shoes and guns, police said.

The scam was so brazen that it caught the attention of employees at the Kroger company. They contacted the police department after noticing the fraudulent transactions.

Brown faces a charge of taking theft.

Police said Brown totaled one of the vehicles he purchased with the money before his arrest, but “a large sum of money” was returned after his arrest.
