“Speaking of Georgia, I’ll go there,” the president said after his Thanksgiving video teleconference with members of the US service, as he baselessly denounced the integrity of the state’s election results.

Georgia holds the second round of elections for its two seats in the US Senate. If one of the outgoing Republicans, Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, retains their seat, the party will retain majority control in the chamber.

If Democratic challengers Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock win, Democrats would take control of the Senate thanks to the decisive vote of Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

“Don’t be disappointed yet,” Trump said, “because this race is far from over.”

The president’s comments punctuated a rambling press conference in which he pushed more unfounded electoral fraud conspiracy theories and continued to deny his electoral loss. The show came directly after his call with the troops – an event that US presidents have traditionally used to boost the morale of service members stationed overseas during the holidays and to remind the country of their service.

“Many of you are very far from home, but today we hope you know that millions of American families pray with gratitude for the sacrifices you make and the incredible, absolutely incredible work you do,” Trump said as he made the appeal. . “

Trump spoke with six units representing every branch of the US military, including the Space Force, which he said holds a “special place in my heart.”

President-elect Joe Biden tweeted that he spent the afternoon on video calls with frontline workers.

“Jill and I had the honor today to speak to some of the heroes on the front lines of this crisis,” Biden said. “We are grateful today and every day for the nurses and firefighters who sacrifice so much to keep our communities safe. We see the best of America in your courage and selflessness.”

In 2017 and 2018, Trump held his Thanksgiving appeal with troops from his resort town of Mar-a-Lago, and last year he made a surprise visit to US troops in Afghanistan.

“There’s nowhere I’d rather celebrate this Thanksgiving than here,” Trump said at the time, “with the toughest, strongest, best and bravest warriors on the face of the Earth.”
