Bulldogs are now 53-14 under sixth-year head coach Smart kirby, with a 32-9 record in conference. Georgia are now the nation’s No.2 team according to Associated Press and coaching polls. The Bulldogs jumped three places in both polls after beating Clemson on Saturday to go 1-0 this season. Now the Bulldogs will aim for a 2-0 record and they will do so in the friendly enclosure at Sanford Stadium against UAB. The site will operate at full capacity for the first time since November 2019. It will break a 22-game streak that UGA has played against teams from the Power 5 (or Notre Dame) conferences or teams ranked in the top 10 (Cincinnati in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl 2021.)
“I am excited about the UAB. Bill Clark is a good friend and I have a lot of respect for what he has done,” Smart said during the weekly SEC coaching teleconference on Wednesday. “Their program – what a great job he has done since they came back to football and rebuilt it very quickly. Lots of talented players very quickly, especially defensively – they are in the top 5, the top 10 in the country for 4 years. -5 years in a row now. They play hard, physical up front, offensively. You learn a lot about a team when you activate special teams and see how hard they play, the punt they play. ‘They blocked, they are doing a wonderful job. So we are delighted to be coming home to Sanford Stadium in front of a packed crowd. “
