Political leaders should discuss the decision on the night of 19 February. There is no guarantee, however, that Huawei will receive the green light. Chancellor Merkel and other senior officials could be heard, but members of the administration and parliament may not fear for their safety.
Germany is encouraged to let in Huawei. One of the officials said at the WSJ that Germany "missed the mark" on broadband due to its lack of fiber optics, and that Huawei would give it a way to catch up without paying as much as it would for alternatives. If there is no demonstrable security risk, why harm the country's chances?
If the country allowed Huawei's involvement, he could defeat the US's global attempts to deter their allies from using Huawei gears. If Germany (and earlier the United Kingdom) believes that Huawei equipment is acceptable, it could lead other allies to do the same and continue to do business with the Chinese giant's technology. The anti-Huawei campaign could have only a limited effect if it is not supported outside the United States and some countries like Australia.
