Germany fears AstraZeneca vaccine may not be approved by EU for people over 65

FRANKFURT, Jan. 25 (Reuters) – AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine is not very effective for people over 65, German coalition sources told the Bild and Handelsblatt tabloid, a measure that calls into question question its relevance in mass immunization programs.

German officials are concerned that the AstraZeneca vaccine may not be approved by European Union authorities for use in people over 65, the German tabloid said in its online edition.

This marks another potential blow for AstraZeneca, who developed their shot with the University of Oxford. He told the EU on Friday that he could not meet the agreed supply targets until the end of March. (Reporting by Edward Taylor; Editing by Dan Grebler)
