Wilhelmshaven (ots) – Detonations on the former Bundeswehr site in Varel – An explosion is expected in the afternoon
Varel. On Wednesday 28.11.2018, the police were informed that explosives of various sizes had been discovered during cleaning or cleaning work on the former Bundeswehr site.
The field workers had discovered the two explosive devices, a 500 kg bomb for World War II and several smaller, apparently contiguous bombs.
For safety reasons, a danger zone with a radius of 1,000 meters has been created, so that the inhabitants concerned must leave their homes.
Currently, it is expected that the demolition will take place in the afternoon.
Volunteer firefighters from Varel, the city of Varel, the community of Bockhorn and the Varel police are participating in the mission.
A helicopter is requested and is on the approach.
