28-year-old admits threatening phone calls in schools and gas stations

Following the bombings of "Schule am Park" in Berlin's Reinickendorf district and several service stations in Brandenburg, police on Wednesday temporarily arrested a 28-year-old suspect in Berlin.

Upon subsequent interrogation, the accused admitted, according to prosecutors Neuruppin and Berlin, that he had telephoned the Reinickendorfer district school in Wittenau on June 29 to 7:30 pm and announced that at 8 pm a bomb would explode in the building.

He also led other threatening calls: on July 2 and 3 in the service station of the Stolper Heide motorway and the Autohof Vehlefanz gas station in Oberkrämer and on July 10 in the station. The evacuation and security measures developed by the Berlin and Brandenburg police were, as indicated, the result. Sometimes even the adjacent highways A10 and A24 were closed. Bombs were not found in all cases.

Investigators followed the accused with the help of telephone connection data. With a judicial search warrant in the bag, officials surprised the 28-year-old man Wednesday in his apartment. According to the prosecution, however, no material was found there, "which indicates the construction of bombs or appropriate preparations".

Against the man is now a proceeding on the suspicion of disturbing the public peace by the threat of crime. After the interrogation, the accused was released. There were insufficient grounds for pre-trial detention, he said.
