iPhone with 5G: own modems at the earliest 2022

Kuo expects iPhones 2020 to support the two main standards. These are less than 6 GHz technology and mmWave technology. Originally, Apple wanted to use Intel modems, but then opted for Qualcomm, after the two companies settled amicably after lengthy licensing and patent litigation. . Apple is now committed to offering Qualcomm 5G modems for a six year term.

After the end of the contract phase, Apple will probably rely on its own 5G modems, which the Group has developed internally. Kuo expects Apple's 5G chip to end in 2022, if possible. Until then, the company relies heavily on Qualcomm as a modem provider.
