Lyft buys nearly 80% of all shared US bikes

The travel agent Lyft enters the sector of bicycle rental. With the resumption of the bike sharing start-up Motivate Uber the largest US rival estimated by estimates, about 80 percent of all bike sharing trips to the United States. Uber took over the Jump electric bike rental company in April and is already present in some big American cities with UberBike. Also in Berlin, UberBike will go to start this year.

Lyft is already much further through the acquisition. With Motivate brands such as Ford GoBike, Citi Bike, BikeShare, CoGo, Divvy, Blue Bikes and Biketown is the car dealership with approximately 30,000 bikes in eight US cities present – including New York, Chicago, Boston, Washington DC

According to the Wall Street Journal, Motivate has also negotiated exclusive deals with certain cities, including San Francisco and New York, to give the company the exclusive right to offer bike sharing. And therefore limited access to the market of other suppliers. A regulation, as was the case in Germany, has however been overturned in court.

Bicycle and electric scooter rental companies, like the American start-up Bird, are booming all over the world. Companies that rely on the business model are currently collecting billions of dollars.

The result: many new business start-ups that are experimenting with a wide range of rental and driving models. And some of them even go beyond the mere sphere of mobility

to have ambitious goals.
