Vienna: Iran links atomic agreement to conditions – Hassan Rohani with Sebastian Kurz

Is there a salute for the nuclear deal with Iran? About a month ago, the country's top leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, announced that he was preparing to resume an unlimited enrichment of uranium. Not long ago, the United States unilaterally terminated the nuclear deal with the country.

From the point of view of the Iranian president, the agreement, to which many European countries cling, will only have a future if his country benefits economically. Hbadan Rohani said in Vienna after meeting with Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz: "We will only stay here if we feel or realize that we benefit from this agreement."

Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen had already told Rohani: "If the other signatories except the United States can safeguard the interests of Iran, Iran wants to continue, even without the United States. United."

On Friday, foreign ministers want to transfer the remaining partners to discuss the future of the agreement in Vienna. The historically acclaimed deal to prevent Iran from building a nuclear bomb was closed in Vienna in 2015.

Because US President Donald Trump also threatens sanctions for all other states that continue to make business with Iran, there is some uncertainty about how other partners behave. Van der Bellen however stressed after the meeting with Rohani that Austria and the EU would support the continuation of the agreement. He spoke of a "key element of the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons".

Meeting with the Chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency

Rohani also wants to meet the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA, Yukiya Amano. In the evening, he wanted to promote investment in the Austrian Chamber of Commerce.

Kurz and Van der Bellen also discussed Rohani's relationship with Israel. Kurz called it "absolutely unacceptable when the right to Israel's existence is questioned or relied upon to destroy Israel". Israel's security is not negotiable for Austria. Rohani criticized Israel for blockading the Gaza Strip, bombarding innocent people and interfering in Syrian affairs.

Rohani's visit to Austria was eclipsed by a diplomatic scandal. A diplomat based at the Iranian embbady in Vienna has reportedly participated in attacks on a rally of 25,000 Iranians exiled in Paris. As a result, the Iranian ambbadador to the Austrian Foreign Ministry was summoned. Rohani claimed that Iran will support the investigation into the case.
