The government wants to impose a stricter law
President Emmanuel Macron said that the equality of rights between men and women was the central theme of his mandate. In a speech on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, he said that he wanted to better protect women in his country: France should not be one of the countries where women are scared. Every three days in France, a woman died as a result of domestic violence last year.
The French Minister for Equal Opportunities, Marlène Schiappa, intervened. She told the newspaper "Le Parisien" that the issue was serious. It is the "freedom of women" to move freely in public. The government will launch a law in the fall.
