Current weather: rain, snow and fog in Germany

A week before the season of advent, it is only very rarely winter. Cloudy and cold autumn weather is the rule. There are exceptions in the north and the south.

The weather of the last week before Advent season does not give any feeling of Christmas: November says goodbye to the foggy, cloudy and wet regions of Germany.

The people from the north come – at least at the beginning of the week the on Monday – I still enjoy some sun rays. According to the forecasts of the German Meteorological Service (DWD), the sun is more common than elsewhere. In addition, it remains largely dry.

Low clouds weigh on the rest of the country. From the Main to the south towards the Alps, precipitation spreads under the influence of the Edeltraud and Flora depressions.

It usually rains in the lowlands, but at high altitude it also turns white. According to the DWD, snowfall is expected in the southeast between 800 and 1,000 meters above sea level.

Five to ten inches of fresh snow

In the evening and in the night of Tuesday, the snow falls even in the deepest layers. South of the Danube, especially in southern Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, a layer of snow up to five centimeters thick is possible, while in the Alpine region it is possible to obtain up to ten inches of fresh snow.

In some areas, there is fog in the night of Tuesday. At temperatures of up to 7 degrees, the DWD warns of the risk of slippery snow and freezing humidity.

Temperatures fluctuate during the day between 0 and 6 degrees, in the highlands, permafrost is predicted.

In the middle of the week, it remains mostly foggy and rainy. On the coast and in the mountains, strong gusts of storm are possible.

Temperatures reach 6 degrees in the day and 9 degrees in the west. At night, smooth roads are expected almost everywhere.

Only a "winter mezzo": it is still warming up

"The winter is a brief appearance in the first half of the week with snow and freezing night, but on Thursday it will be a lot warmer." In the west, even double-digit summits are possible, "says Dominik Jung of wetter.net.

Winter weather conditions are not on the eve of the first weeks of December.

For a relaxation of the inland navigation and thus a fall of the prices of the petrol in the petrol stations, the weak precipitations can not provide.

According to the Duisburg-Rhein waterways and shipping authority, the river level is decreasing again. And it will stay that way for a while.

According to calculations with data from the German weather service, precipitation is expected to be more abundant at the earliest in the second half of December, said hydrologist Jörg Uwe Belz of the Federal Institute.

Such a long-term forecast is very uncertain. If there is still frost and snow in the coming weeks, it could be even worse than in October, when the water level in the Rhine has reached record lows.
