The American start-up Rivian announced a purely electric pickup. The Rivian R1T EV should already start in 2020. There is now a first information.

Tesla boss Elon Musk promised a power-driven pickup truck several years ago. The should come after the planned Y model crossing in about two years. If he does not keep his word, he will be slowed down by Ohio-based start-up Rivian, as he wants his R1T EV on American roads by 2020 at the latest. According to current plans, however, the first vehicles will be available as early as 2019. The Rivian R1T EV's first in a version ready for the 92% series at the L.A. Auto Show.
The Rivian R1T EV presents itself with its double cabin and its four doors in the format typical of American vans. It measures just under 5.50 meters and has a wheelbase of 3.45 meters. Narrow overhangs at the front and rear and variable ground clearance of 20 to 35 centimeters thanks to an adjustable air suspension to provide sufficient off-road capability. The fording depth should be about one meter. Thanks to its low center of gravity, climbing ability is remarkable at 45 degrees.
Up to 640 km of autonomy
In its overall concept, the Rivian, like many conventional drive sensors, relies on a steel scale frame with an aluminum and plastic body. However, Rivian uses the frame to house the entire battery, in addition to the components of the drive. Depending on the configuration, it can be 105, 135 or 180 kWh and allows ranges up to 640 kilometers. The upgrade of the battery should be possible wirelessly. The batteries should be able to accumulate new energy with a fast charge of up to 160 kW. In 50 minutes, 80% of the capacity is charged, in 30 minutes to provide enough power for about 320 kilometers.

The drive is provided by four electric motors, one per wheel. The power of each motor is 147 kW, the total power of the system is 588 kW. The total torque is between 560 and 1120 Nm. Equipped with the superior configuration, the Rivian of nearly 2.7 tons should accelerate to just over three seconds. The maximum speed is 200 km / h. The payload will be 800 kilograms, the load of the trailer will be five tons. The loading area with power liftgate measures approximately 1.40 meters by 1.50 meters. In addition, the Rivian offers covered cargo space under the front bonnet and a tunnel compartment behind the double cab. Its doors can also be used as a step.
Prices from $ 70,000
The interior comes standard with a large glbad roof and two large touch screens. One serves as a group of instruments, the other center of infotainment. Via a third touch screen, the rear pbadengers can configure the settings. On the ground, the Rivian R1T should be able to drive autonomously at level 3. Sensors, cameras and Lidar technology are on board.
As a base price, Rivian for a model with a long reach and simple equipment of about $ 85,000 in perspective. With the latest base battery, the price should drop to just under $ 70,000.
The Rivian models, as well as the batteries, will be built in a former Mitsubishi factory in Illinois. The first year, 20,000 cars must be built. Production is expected to increase to 50,000 units per year.
