Every weekend on n-tv.de, you can see a new drawing of the Berlin artist Olaf Schwarzbach, better known as OL. He now receives the Heinrich Zille Caricatures Award – he wins the contest "The truth finally bugs!"
For the drawing "refugee crisis", the Berlin cartoonist Olaf Schwarzbach sums up, in a nutshell, the OL, endowed with 1000 € of the Heinrich Zille Caricatures Award of the Saxon city of Radeburg. The image convinces with humor, graphic quality and ambiguity and responds to the slogan of the contest "Truth disturbs the last!", The jury justified its choice among nearly 90 participants.
The birthplace of the illustrator Heinrich Zille (1858-1929), who became especially famous for his drawings from Berlin, had written for the first time the prize that was awarded to him. It will be awarded for the first time annually and on January 13, 2019 for the first time.
Olaf Schwarzbach was born in East Berlin in 1965, fled to Germany from the West via Hungary and Austria in the late 1980s and returned to Berlin after the fall of the Berlin Wall after a long stay in England. He has been drawing for a long time under the acronym OL, among others, for "Berliner Zeitung", "Tagesspiegel" and "Die Zeit", but also for n-tv.de – here is every weekend from Friday a new "Happy weekend!" Cartoon to see. In 2015, his book "Trout Gray – The Story of OL", in which he tells about his life, the GDR, his childhood, his flight, the fall of the wall, that he lived in the West.
Caricature Exhibition at Heimatmuseum Radeburg
The Zille award is not its first: in 2003 and 2013, OL has already received the German caricature award. So now comes the honor of Radeburger. An exhibition at the Heimatmuseum shows more than 100 caricatures after the awards ceremony.
The graphic designer, painter and photographer Zille was born on January 10, 1858 in a house of the Radeburger Markt. A little later, the family moved to Dresden and in 1868 to BerlinThere, Zille became famous for his mocking social criticism in cartoons like "Pinselheinrich".
