Cologne poll: discovery of a 20-cent bomb – 10,000 people are evacuated

Due to the bomb recovered from 20 centiles on the Second World War in Cologne-Poll (Siegburger 504), a 1000-meter evacuation radius around the locality is needed.

The weapons disposal service and the security service are on site, the bomb will be defused in the evening. The exact time is not fixed yet. The city hopes that the defusing will be completed at midnight.

10,000 people affected by the evacuation

The evacuation takes place within a radius of 1000 meters. The city expects the evacuation and defusing to continue until late in the evening. More than 100 members of the prosecutor's office are currently taking people out of their homes.

The evacuation affects about 10,000 people. Retirement homes, nurseries, refugee houses and part of the A4 motorway are located in the evacuation zone.

The district is located in the immediate vicinity of the Cologne-Poll motorway junction – the A4 federal motorway is therefore blocked between Vingst and Cologne-South. The exit of the A559 highway on the A4 motorway is already. The A4 is still practicable. The time of suspension is not fixed yet.

However, the roads in the evacuation area have been blocked for about 18 hours (see map above).

The departure point for the evacuees is the Mudra barracks, Kölner Straße 262, Köln-Westhoven. There are also hot drinks and snacks.
