THE 2018 Auto Show

Toyota presents a small facelift for the Prius at the L.A. Auto Show, which brings the usual visual changes. In addition, there is an all-wheel drive option for the Prius in the United States.

The front of the Prius, slightly redesigned, now adorns the new headlights with two LED units (bi-beam LED). The taillights have been redesigned. With raised bumpers, a fluid line should appear in the side view, which should give the Prius a sportier silhouette. The horizontal lines at the front and at the rear also emphasize the vehicle's low center of gravity. The removal of the rear registration plate has also been redesigned.

In addition, the Toyota Prius is offered with two new paint colors on the 17-inch alloy wheels Karmina Red Metallic and Reflex Blue Metallic.

Inside, the revision is reflected in the modified layout of the instruments on the center console and dashboard. There are new seat cushions and an expanded charger for smartphones. The navigation instructions are now displayed directly on the head-up screen and the upgraded infotainment system also responds to gesture control.

Optional with AWD

For the US market, Toyota also offers an optional AWD-e system, which temporarily transforms the Prius + into all-wheel drive. The Prius carries a second electric motor on the rear axle. The system is designed as a traction aid on slippery terrain. Rear-wheel drive only supports the maximum speed of ten km / h. At the latest at 75 km / h, it rises completely. The rear electric motor draws its energy from a new nickel-metal-hydride battery that sits under the rear seats and therefore does not affect the volume of the trunk. Front-wheel drive models retain the lithium-ion battery. After Germany, the four-wheel drive does not come.
