Cologne In the end, it took longer than expected: in Cologne-Poll, a failure of the Second World War was defused on the night of Thursday. Previously, about 10,000 people needed to be secured.

After the discovery of a 20 percentile war bomb in Cologne-Poll, the misfire was defused on Thursday night. All restrictions have been lifted, the city announced Thursday morning. Residents could go home. According to the police, Highway 4 is free again.

As evacuation within a kilometer radius proved to be particularly expensive, the start of defusing was delayed several times. About 10,000 residents had to leave their homes, including elderly people and sick people, who had to be transported from their homes and apartments. Affected persons were also facilities for the elderly and refugee housing.

For the inhabitants, the city had set up three points of contact: a barracks and two schools. A total of 1000 people were accommodated in the facilities and received drinks and snacks. About 100 working groups from the Order and Transport Department were on site. The German Red Cross, the police, the fire brigade and the Bundeswehr have also supported the action with many employees. Everything was done professionally and routinely, eyewitnesses reported in the barracks. The atmosphere was relaxed. The long lines did not exist.

The A4 federal highway was closed between Vingst and Cologne-South. In addition, the tram line 7 and a freight line were affected by the suspension.
