Pop star Wolfgang Petry returns with a new album. A conversation about groupies, heroes and down-to-earth people.
Wolfgang Petry: Never made music to meet women

Wolfgang Petry:
I always tell stories of life in my songs, so is my new album "Jetzt!". However, talking about music and lyrics is not my strength, because then you have to listen to music and create your own image.
The title of the song "Where are all the heroes" leads to the question: who are your heroes in life?
Petry:
There are many heroes and everyday heroes for me. After all, there is a little hero in all of us, just browse the world with your eyes open and sometimes help with little things. I find it very heroic and human. Musically, I wanted to join the Eagles, so they were a model for me. But just as Nelson Mandela is a hero and a model for me.
They also sing to be happy. What makes you happy in life?
Petry:
In the first place, my family makes me happy: my wife, my son, my daughter-in-law and our grandchildren, but also our friends. And the second big chance for me is music: I'm allowed to make music, compose, write and sing, it makes me completely happy.
They are married for a long time, they have a son and two grandchildren.
Petry:
I am an absolute family man and I have always wanted to be. Without my wife Rosie, for example, I would not be viable in everyday life. If Rosie had not been with me over the years, that would not have happened to me either.
Has your family ever suffered when you traveled a lot for work? Have you ever had a guilty conscience?
Petry:
Of course, my family has suffered. Often, Rosie had to look after our Achim son alone and do other tasks of daily life herself, because I traveled a lot. But I would not call it a bad conscience now, because I had to feed my family and do my job. Nevertheless, I owe a lot to my family.
They probably had hundreds of admirers and groupies. How did you manage to stay firm with the certainly tempting offers?
Petry:
I have never made music to meet women. There are different examples, which are only on the stage. For me, it was always about music. Although we celebrated a lot and of course we had a lot of fun.
What's going on in your head today when you see old clichés of yourself, with mustaches and hundreds of friendship ribbons? Do you have to smile?
Petry:
I see this more often under the motto "Everything has its time and it was a good time". I've never been disguised or combed, but I've always been and it's still wool, as I am. All the rest would not suit me at all.
Should we live in life? Or did you have a plan?
Petry:
My plan has always been to make music, and I have been very determined to continue this plan. At that time, my father had made it a condition that I complete my training as a precision mechanic. Then we would continue to watch. And then I did it.
