Emergency physicians should soon be able to reach their patients faster with small electric helicopters. ADAC Luftrettung is launching a pilot project in Bavaria and Rhineland-Palatinate. "Already in the coming months, there will be the first search flights," said the organization. The two-seat Volocopter with 18 small electrically powered rotors aims to "bring the doctor faster than in the ambulance to patients and thus improve its supply," said the rescue aerial of ADAC. Along with the search flights, the University of Munich will simulate air rescue missions with Volocopter on computer from the spring of 2019. The ADAC Air Rescue is, on its own account, the world's first organization of this type, who examines the use of multicopters inhabited in the emergency services.
The Volocopter company from Bruchsal near Karlsruhe (Baden-Württemberg) develops vertically launched electric helicopters in the form of an air taxi that can fly with pilots, remotely or autonomously. The ADAC Luftrettung is the largest air rescue organization in Germany with more than 50 rescue helicopters spread over 36 stations.
