The dream for MT Melsungen: Bundesliga handball players from North Hesse fail in the quarterfinals of the THW Kiel Cup. The loss is overshadowed by a serious injury to Domagoj Pavlovic.
German handball champion THW Kiel is named the first Final Four team for the DHB Cup. Coach Alfred Gislason's team beat Tuesday's MT Melsungen 31:19 (19: 8) in the quarter-finals.
The match was overshadowed by Melsunger Domagoj Pavlovic's serious injury. After a collision with Domagoj Duvnjak after about 30 seconds, the playmaker had to be treated for almost 20 minutes on the ground, then hospitalized for an alleged fracture of the fibula, which was confirmed thereafter.
The Kiel match, the winner of the record cup, was due to the occupation of the hall on the scheduled date of 18/19. December was preferred. In the other quarter-finals against defending champion Berlin, defending champion Rhein-Neckar Löwen, TSV Hannover-Burgdorf played against HC Erlangen (both on 18 December), and the following day received SC Magdeburg Frisch Auf Göppingen. The final will be held on 6 and 7 April 2019 in Hamburg.
