Airbus sells 60 regional machines

Bombardier found no market for airplanes. Airbus now wants to prove that it works. The aircraft manufacturer sells 60 A220-300 aircraft in America.

Airbus won a major order for its A220-300. The American airline JetBlue announced Tuesday night, having ordered 60 machines of this type. The Franco-German aeronautical manufacturer had attracted the Americans so that they could be served faster in orders for large machines.

Airbus had already stated that it expected rapid commercial success for the CSeries regional aircraft program. For years, the former owner Bombardier had waited in vain for orders.

Airbus wants to exploit half of the demand

The majority of the shares of the CSeries belongs since 1 July to Airbus. The aircraft manufacturer renames the previous CS100 with 110 seats in A220-100, the CS300 with 130 seats is now called A220-300. Bombardier, a Canadian aerospace and railroad company, had given up hope of being able to impose itself on the world market on its own with short-haul aircraft of 110 to 130 pbadengers. Airbus pays a token amount for the acquisition and relies on its large sales force to better succeed. The third owner alongside Airbus and Bombardier is the Canadian state of Quebec

Long-term – for 20 years – Airbus sees demand for 7,000 smaller aircraft from 100 to 150 seats, of which the future A220 and the Airbus A310. At least half should represent the CSeries aircraft. The biggest competitor in the regional jets is the Brazilian Embraer, who is about to be picked up by American rival Airbus Boeing. Airbus and Boeing have long focused on machines with at least 150 seats and have only recently discovered the smaller segment.
