In 2015, Amazon introduced a concept that resembled a revolution – now it is again reduced to pulp, which Amazon sells as a progress.
Seattle / Munich – Amazon once again launches a presumed technology of the future: the "Dash buttons", with which customers can quickly order items of daily life quickly, in a few weeks to a piece of worthless plastic. As of August 31, Amazon will cease its functions – although the company promised something different a few months ago.
According to the online giant, the concept will only be available on the Internet in the future. The "Dash" virtual buttons on the Amazon website or in the app remain active. The same goes for the "Dash" automatic replenishment service on some devices.
Amazon breaks promises and makes them positive: "Customers should not press a button"
Amazon had already stopped selling new buttons in March. At that time, Amazon's head office was still saying, "If you now have a" Dash "button at home, of course, it remains functional." Now, Amazon explains, since stopping sales, the use of hardware buttons "has dropped dramatically."
Disabling the physical buttons is the "natural evolution" of the Dash program: "We have always said that we envision a future in which home customers would not have to press a physical button to replenish their products. " The control buttons were officially launched in early 2015.
The "Dash" buttons of Amazon last for 70 products – there was a legal problem
For Germany, the decision has an additional explosiveness. In January, Amazon had a lawsuit against the consumer center North Rhine-Westphalia, which had lost the buttons, in the Munich Higher Regional Court. The judges found that Amazon had violated the laws on online commerce, for lack of clear information on the content, prices and the indication of a paid order. Buttons, reminiscent of a doorbell, have only the logo of the supplier of a product and the button that triggers a command.
Amazon brought the buttons to Germany in 2016. To stop the sale, there were about 70 for various items such as detergents, diapers, condoms, coffee or cosmetics. However, fans have also used buttons to control network lamps in smart homes, for example. The developer button version – the "AWS IoT Button", specifically for these applications, will continue to be available.
Last but not least, there was a problem with Amazon's "Alexa" – for privacy reasons. The online giant wants to take action against counterfeiters.
