Seven years later and 4.5 billion euros more, Berlin Brandenburg airport is still not finished. The director of the airport, Lütke Daldrup, must now explain to the supervisory board what the project is.

The director of the Berlin airport, Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, wishes to report Friday to the supervisory board on the progress made on the construction site of the BER. The new Schönefeld airport is scheduled to enter service in October 2020 after several missed appointments. Security had increased, had recently announced Lütke Daldrup. The supervisory board also aims to finance the project. Lütke Daldrup wants to use money, which is actually intended for the enlargement of the airport, to complete the REC. In reality, the airport is expected to come into service in 2011 and cost two billion euros. At the same time, the financial framework reached 6.5 billion euros.

Despite the bankruptcy of Air Berlin, the airport manager expects an increase in pbadenger traffic in Schönefeld and Tegel this year. "We are already above the number of pbadengers in 2017. Last year, we counted 33.3 million pbadengers at the end, but this year we expect 35 million," he said. declared.

According to Lütke Daldrup, the bankruptcy of Air Berlin last year was a cut. After all, the airline with 30% market share was the largest customer of the airport company. He was convinced that at the latest with the opening of the ECN in October 2020, the number of long-haul routes would increase. "There is a lot of interest in Berlin, especially with regard to REC," he said. "Berlin is by far the most attractive destination in Germany and we are also much bigger than tourist destinations like Rome or Barcelona."
