The ceasefire is due to Egyptian mediation

After heavy fighting with at least two dead in the Gaza Strip, radical Islamic Hamas claims to have agreed on a ceasefire -fire with Israel. The ruling organization in the Palestinian region has accepted a corresponding mediation offer from Egypt, spokesman Fausi Barhum said Saturday night. A spokesman for the Israeli army simply stated that the actions of the army depended on the situation on the ground.

The conflict between Israel and Hamas intensified after months of tension. In response to the rocket and grenade attacks of the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army has launched the most serious offensive on Palestinian territory since the Gaza war in 2014.

The Prime Minister Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has threatened Israel to increase the strength of its attacks. A representative of the Israeli Air Force said that his country was "ready for all scenarios".

The Israeli army accused Hamas and other groups of firing about a hundred rockets and mortar shells at Israel. Some of the projectiles were intercepted by the Israeli air defense. Three Israelis were wounded in the Israeli city of Sderot, near the Gaza Strip, when a rocket from Gaza crashed on a house roof.

The Israeli Air Force bombed dozens of targets in the Gaza Strip. Among the targets was a multi-storey building that would have served as a training center with a tunnel below.

The Gaza Ministry of Health said two young Palestinians aged 15 and 16 were killed in Saturday's air raids west of Gaza. The Israeli army said the building had been used by Hamas for military purposes. In the Gaza Strip, 25 people were wounded, according to the ministry.

Israel blames Hamas for the escalation, highlighting protests and clashes for several months on the Gaza border that Islamists would use as cover for attacks. On Israeli farms, there have been numerous fires of fireballs and incendiary dragons in the Gaza Strip.

Since the end of March, Palestinians have repeatedly protested the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip. Israel has been cordoned off for years. At least 141 Palestinians have been killed and approximately 4,000 injured. The clashes fueled fears of a fourth war in the Gaza Strip since 2008.

More recently, Israel was at war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip in the summer of 2014. More than 2 100 Palestinians were killed in the 50-day protection operation, most of them being civilians. 74 Israelis also died, most of them soldiers.
