At least five deaths in forest fires

The devastating wildfires in California have destroyed at least 500 homes up here. Nine people are currently missing, as reported by the US television channel CBS.

Fires have recently raged, especially in the city of Redding, which has a population of 90,000, and films show how entire neighborhoods have been burned down. More than 7,000 firefighters fought flames in California on the west coast of the United States.

According to Fire Chief Ken Pimlott, strong winds continued to blow the fires. The so-called Carr fire has displaced tens of thousands of people. Only five percent of fires are under control.
