BMW reacts to Trump's punitive homework: The X3 is now built in China

[ad_1]

"BMW China will not be able to completely absorb the tariff increases for cars imported from the United States," said Monday a spokesman for the Dax Group in Munich. "At the moment, we are calculating the necessary price increases in this context." For the moment, however, it remains to the list of current prices for dealers. The new prices are expected to be published later

The X3 is currently being built in China

China has announced that it will raise US tariff rates to 40% in response to punitive US tariffs. For the rest of the world, Beijing lowered its rates by 25 to 15% on July 1st.

BMW builds the SUV X3 to X6 models in its largest plant in Spartanburg, United States (state of South Carolina), which are also exported to China. Since May, the Chinese BMW factory in Shenyang also started production of the X3, of which no vehicle is now exported from the United States to China.

Also problems for Daimler

Even his high-ranking rival Daimler has problems with Beijing's special duties on cars produced in the United States. By mid-June, the Stuttgart-based company had already reduced its annual forecast for the Group's operating result and referred primarily to tariffs in China. Daimler builds the big Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLS SUVs at the American factory in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and also exports those cars to China.

The increase in import tariffs in China would result in lower sales than expected in the profit warning. In addition, the higher costs could not be fully pbaded on to customers.

Volkswagen has hardly been affected by the tariff dispute between the United States and China until now. In the United States, VW is building the Pbadat and the new Atlas SUV for the North American market. Volkswagen manufactures the Golf and Jetta for North America in Pueblo, Mexico. The Audi subsidiary builds the Q5 SUV in San Jose Chiapa, Mexico, but also in China.
