During a large-scale raid, Saxon security authorities reacted to evidence of a possible attack on the Christmas markets of Chemnitz and Dresden. According to the Attorney General of Dresden, several cells of a women's prison in Chemnitz were searched. Clues for the plans were not found.
Earlier, the "Free Press" and the "Bild" reported. According to the authorities, the raid took place on Monday.
According to the Attorney General's office, a prisoner was "vaguely informed" that two detainees were talking about attacks on both Christmas markets. One of the women also had contact with the outside.
"We have hinted, especially after the experience of recent years, nevertheless, very seriously," said Chief Prosecutor Wolfgang Klein.
According to the newspapers, one of the women is a 36-year-old Syrian suspected of supporting the Islamic State terrorist group and recruiting new blood. The "Freie Presse" reported that the police had already searched the woman's apartment in Dresden in July. She was arrested in October.
