Defending champion Magnus Carlsen is again world champion in chess. The Norwegian has imposed 3-0 in the decisive game in quick chess against his American rival Fabiano Caruana.

World champion Magnus Carlsen defended his title with a clear victory in quick chess. The 27-year-old Norwegian won 3-0 at the so-called tie-break against his American rival Fabiano Caruana. The decisive game became necessary after the two opponents drew in their tough World Cup match in London in twelve matches with a clbadic time of reflection in each draw.

Victory after 54 moves

In the first match of the Tiebreaker, Carlsen chose Weiß with the English opening and a rare variant. In the third game, Caruana put everything on a card with Black. He chose the Sicilian defense, but he was not able to exert significant pressure. Caruana congratulated his opponent in a desperate situation after 54 moves.

Carlsen won the world title for the first time in 2013 and has been defending it ever since. On a fund of one million euros, he obtained 550,000 euros.
