US government renews threats
US Vice President Mike Pence has renewed threats of sanctions in the meantime. Brunson is accused of links with the PKK, a banned party of Kurdish workers, and with the movement around US preacher Fethullah Gülen. The prosecution requires up to 35 years in prison. The Turkish government blames Gülen for the coup attempt of July 2016.
