Covestro extends its film production in Chempark Dormagen, Thailand and the United States.

The use of special technical films, for example for the interior of cars, is becoming more and more common around the world. This is gratifying for the Covestro plastics specialist, whose portfolio includes the production of such films of polycarbonate and thermoplastic polyurethane. To meet growing demand, Covestro is expanding its capabilities – at the Dormagen site in Thailand, Map Ta Phut, and South Deerfield, USA: In Guangzhou, China, an existing coextrusion line will be upgraded. In total, the company claims to invest more than 100 million euros in these extensions, creating more than 100 new jobs worldwide.

The special films produced by Covestro are characterized by good resistance to scratches and UV rays. By targeted adjustment of the surface structure, additive or coating, the films could be equipped with additional functions, for example with a special light-scattering capability as well as with barrier properties . Apart from the automotive industry, they are used in the fields of graphic design, medicine and health, packaging, security and the production of identity cards and identity cards

The Dormagen expansion is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2020. Several new coextrusion lines are planned. Last year, a new high quality multilayer flat film production line had already been set up, along with the corresponding infrastructure and the necessary logistical means had been provided in this context. In South Deerfield in the state of Mbadachusetts, capacity expansions are already implemented, in the Thai Ta Phut map is a system under construction. It should be completed by the end of 2019.
