Everyone has already seen the recommended selling price index: it shows the customer how much an item should cost. However, as a sample of the NRW Consumer Center reveals, manufacturers often use their EIA to deceive the customer.
The consumer center criticizes that EIAs are often too high to allow dealers to benefit from significant discounts. This confirmed the manufacturer of a sports treadmill at the request of the consumer center. He said that the market price of his treadmill was about 50% of EIA. Illegal, this is not the case: As long as the EIA exists and is properly stated, this is legally allowed at least.
However, many traders resort to a second round: according to the consumer center, 19 out of 71 EIAs were simply wrong. Merchants' websites often cite higher EIAs than suppliers. Even so, a high discount can be rigged
The Consumer Advice Center therefore advises customers not to blindly trust the EIA advertising and even to compare prices.
