The Edeka supermarket chain is testing plastic boxes instead of disposable bags at the sausage counter. The dealer network said it had developed a reusable system that could be used nationwide in the future. The first test begins in Büsum in Schleswig-Holstein. There, customers can buy sausages or cheese in a box, which they can return on their next purchase.
"The new system is simple, convenient and avoids disposable plastic or paper packaging," said a spokesman for Edeka. Similar doses are already used in individual markets. In Büsum, we are now testing how this reusable system can be introduced at all levels.
According to a spokesperson, when customers use a can for the first time, they have to pay four or five euros depending on their size. The next time you shop, throw the box in a collection box and get a new box for free. The used cans are cleaned in the dishwasher on site. Customers can always choose disposable packaging if they wish.
Many Edeka traders have shown interest in the system, according to the spokesperson. As they are independent, they can decide for themselves whether and how they want to offer reusable boxes.
