"Measles is not a harmless infant disease. They are very infectious. All who come into contact with the virus and are not protected falls ill.Just a short contact with the virus of measles is enough, "says Dr. med. Verena Bochat, Head of Infection Protection at the Department of Health.
Viruses can weaken the immune system and cause serious complications. The ears, lungs and brain can be damaged permanently. There are always deadly forms. If a red and irregular rash follows with fever, runny nose, conjunctivitis, dry cough and photosensitivity, a measles disease should be clarified by the doctor.
There is, according to Bochat, an effective vaccination. All children should receive a combined measles, mumps and rubella vaccine between 11 and 14 months of age and a second vaccination between 15 and 23 months of age.
Adults born after 1970 should be vaccinated if they are not vaccinated. or have been vaccinated against measles once or as a child. Older people have experienced measles and are protected.
