Honda will no longer offer the diesel engine in Europe in the medium term, according to a report from Automotive News Europe. By 2021, there will be more diesel models, said Dave Hodgetts, general manager of Honda UK.

The Japanese company wants instead to rely on an alternative propulsion in Europe. Plug-in hybrids must provide fuel savings, even pure electric vehicles are expected. Each new series should have an electrified version, said Hodgetts.
Honda wants to sell two thirds of its vehicles in Europe from 2025 with any electric propulsion system. The first Honda electric car to arrive in 2019 on the market, but in China.
For this market, Honda has presented with its partner GAC an electric SUV. The Honda Everus VE-1 is similar to the HR-V and must be offered to the Chinese customer for a grant equivalent to about 21,000 euros (170,800 yuan). Before subsidy, the car costs around 28,000 euros.
