Ankara (AP) – Two weeks after the presidential and legislative elections in Turkey, the former and the new president Recep Tayyip Erdogan was sworn in and came up to the height of his power.

Erdogan, who has determined the fate of Turkey for nearly 16 years, is no longer the head of state but the head of government. Swearing in Parliament in Ankara Monday afternoon sealed the state's transformation from a parliamentary system to a presidential system. Erdogan had worked for that for years.

During the brief ceremony, Erdogan stated that he vowed to be faithful to the rule of law, to protect the democratic and secular republic, and to exercise his office impartially. He would not depart from the "ideal that everyone in the country enjoy fundamental freedoms and human rights". Erdogan plans to present his new cabinet in the evening.
