Ticks can transmit Lyme disease and meningitis, diseases that can be fatal. This year, leeches are particularly active.

Experts have developed a model that will allow them to predict the density of ticks already in the winter for l \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ next summer. In 1965, the risk is "particularly high"

According to Dobler, the risk is particularly high this year. In addition to TBE, which can also be fatal, the common male can also transmit borreliosis. Although there is a preventive vaccine against TBE, there is no vaccine available for Lyme disease. However, infections can be treated with antibiotics.

Experts still advise taking care of ticks, especially in TBE risk areas. There are more animals infected with viruses than elsewhere. TBE risk zones currently include 156 districts in Germany. These include almost all of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, but also parts of Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, Thuringia, Saxony and Saarland.
