About ten months after the elections, the budget for the year 2018 is adopted by the Bundestag. As a result, the budget for the current year provides for expenses of 343.6 billion euros – without having to incur new debts.
The federal budget for the current year is finally closed after a much faster consultation process. Against the votes of the opposition, the parliament approved the budget, which provides for total expenditure of 343.6 billion euros. The federal budget must be heard for the fifth time in a row without new debt. The months of formation of the coalition had considerably delayed work on the federal budget.
Already this Friday, the government wants to finalize the draft budget for 2019, which must also be adopted by the Bundestag after the parliamentary summer holidays. Finance Minister Olaf Scholz stressed that the budget for 2018 is solidly funded and nevertheless allows to invest in important issues for the future and social cohesion
"This is a principle which is also suitable for the future ". Excessive spending is devoted, inter alia, to the introduction of Baukindergeld and the digital package, which will enable more than 5,000 schools to have broadband Internet access. Additional funds are also available for new customs posts, the Federal Police and the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees
