On Sunday evening, a Caritas building in Augsburg burns. The fire destroys a large part of the uninhabited house and several cars. A huge cloud of smoke terrifies the inhabitants

A fire seriously damaged a building of the Caritas Catholic Charity in Augsburg. According to preliminary estimates, the damage caused by the fire on Sunday night would reach a high six-figure amount, announced Augsburg police on Monday. People were not injured in the fire. Shortly after midnight, a hundred firefighters on the spot mastered the fire. The mission continued until the early hours of the morning. According to the police, the cause of the fire is still not clear.

The first cases of fire in the building were reported to the police around 9 pm. Many people had reported the fire by an emergency call. The smoke of the fire could be seen in the evening on large parts of the city, as shown by the images of the local media. The building in the Göggingen district of Augsburg and several cars were badly damaged by the fire.

The diocesan director of Caritas, Domkapitular Andreas Magg, was shocked. According to the relief agency, the center said that "so much is being done for so many people". At the same time, Magg thanked all the volunteers for their service and got help to "resume" Caritas service "as soon as possible".

Caritas used the building as a warehouse, the police said. It also housed a café and a social department store.
