Frankfurt Airport: Federal Police Test New Passenger Controls

At Frankfurt Airport, the Federal Police has begun testing new control lanes to guide pbadengers more quickly into the security zone. At several points in the screening process, pbadengers have the opportunity to double the slower pbadengers.

For example, on the two control lanes of Terminal 1, at Pier A, pbadengers can carry their carry-on baggage simultaneously at multiple loading points, the Federal Police said. Until now, they must do it one after the other. In addition, there would be more jobs available for the evaluation of radiological images and manual tracking.

However, the new test lines have a larger footprint than conventional lines, as confirmed by the authority. Where two lanes are now available in one section of Pillar A, four were previously installed.

Staff employment remains unchanged on the surface, said Federal Police spokesman Reza Ahmari. We hope to be able to handle more pbadengers with the new arrangement. Exact targets do not exist.

After traffic jams and long wait times in the summer, the airports had asked the operator Frankfurt-Fraport that he was at the top of the reforms to speed up the screening of pbadengers. They also want to coordinate the use of private security services in place of the federal police. But that would require amendments to the Aviation Security Act.

According to Ahmari, the new control lines will also be used in the planned extension of Terminal 1 and, in some years, in the new Terminal 3 south of the largest German airport.

First, a four-week test is planned, in which one wants to learn, said the project manager and chief commissioner, Michael Kraft. "At some point, we will switch to normal operating mode."
