Traditionally, the Kölner Lichter 2018 were – at least musically: The firework display was under the motto "Paintings – The Cologne Fireermaler" and was mostly accompanied by works by composers such as Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky. But also the "fire" of the German rapper Marteria has been heard.
Unlike in 2017, Cologne was not allowed to vote on music selection this time. At that time, more than 1400 suggestions were gathered. Twenty-one songs have been selected, including songs by Tommy Engel, Bläck Fööss, Kasalla, Höhner, Cat Ballou, Robbie Williams and John Lennon. If the Cologne light organizers leave the vote in Cologne in the coming year is not yet certain.
