Hamburg is dense – and the Elbtunnel. During the night from Saturday to Sunday, one of the main arteries of the city is completely closed. The reason are – again – the construction work. The Maritime Authority said that preparations for the extension of the south A7 motorway from six to eight lanes will be held during the weekend. Among other things, the signal displays and the tunnel control system will be adapted to the new traffic management on construction sites.
The Elbtunnel must therefore be completely closed from Saturday 22nd to Sunday 7am. Affected is the section between the Heimfeld and Volkspark junctions.
What alternatives are there?
In Hamburg, the bridges of the Elbe are an alternative for car drivers. However, long distance traffic is expected to bypbad the Elbtunnel on a large area, said traffic coordinator Christian Merl. The recommended detour route connects the Horster Dreieck south of Hamburg and the Neumünster-Süd junction via the A1, A21 and B205
How often does a complete blockage of the tunnel of the 39; Elbe?
Very rare. Since the opening of the building in 1975, the road tunnel has been closed only once, according to the traffic authority. It was around the turn of the millennium when a new computer was installed in the control center of the fourth tunnel tube. Exactly, this computer needs to be replaced now, because for the new building of the 600 meter long tunnel ramp, a two-way replacement drive must be established.
Another complete closure is already scheduled for the night of July 28-29.
Where is construction going?
A24: Saturday, also 22 hours, nothing goes here. The Hamburg section of the Hamburg-Schwerin-Berlin motorway will not be pbadable until 4 August. The reason for this is construction work: The plan is to rehabilitate the roadway between the Horner Kreisel and the Hamburg-Ost intersection.
What diversions are there?
As a diversion, the Department of Transport recommends that the B5 move further south. Thanks to the complete closure, section A24 can be rehabilitated in four weeks. Following the usual procedure, the construction work lasted 27 weeks, it was said
What will happen next week?
There is another traffic jam! On the A7 south of Elbtunnel will continue to build from Monday. The traffic authority has the three lanes in the direction of Hanover between Waltershof and Hausbruch re-asphalt. Traffic must be partially pbaded on the opposite lane, so that despite construction work in each case, three lanes in the north and south directions are available. Nevertheless, the authority expects a traffic jam.
