Flooded streets, overflowing cellars: A storm with heavy rain swept Landau Saturday. The German weather service warns of "local storms" in the country
Heavy rains overtook Landau on Saturday afternoon. It fell so much rain that the streets were flooded and the sewers were raised, police said. More than 100 cellars were stranded.
The downtown area was like a pool after the rain, said a fire department inspector responsible for the SWR. Several roads had to be temporarily closed. Roads around the city and parts of Highway 65 near Landau have also been affected.
