Israel attacks Syria

The Israeli army attacked three Syrian military posts during the night. This was the answer to the entry of a Syrian drone into Israeli airspace Wednesday, the army said. Syrian media reported that the Israeli air force fired "a series of missiles at several army positions" in Kuneitra province in southwestern Syria. No case of injury has been reported.

Earlier, the Israeli army reportedly intercepted a Syrian UAV with a missile defense system. An army statement said the "Patriot" defense system considered the projectile that had entered Israeli airspace as a threat and shot down. Alerts have been raised in the Syrian Golan Heights, which have been largely occupied and annexed by Israel.

The Israeli army has been particularly vigilant since the Russo-Syrian offensive of 19 June in the province of Daraa in southern Syria. In early July, it reinforced the presence of troops in the occupied part of the Golan. The Air Force claims to repeatedly attack Iranian fighters or arms deliveries to radical Islamic Hezbollah. The organization is closely related to Iran.

On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was received by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Netanyahu warned against the presence of Iran in Syria. Netanyahu had called on the Syrian partner, Russia, to work for a withdrawal of Iranian units from Syria.

The Israeli army has repeatedly attacked targets in Syria in the past. These were mainly Iranian targets or targets of groups allied with Iran, such as the Lebanese Hezbollah militia.
