Tel aviv / gaza (dpa) – The conflict between Israel and Hamas in power in the Gaza Strip is worsening dangerously.

Palestinian militants have fired a total of 30 missiles at Israeli targets since Friday after Israeli soldiers killed four Palestinians during violent border demonstrations. In response, the Israeli Air Force attacked about 80 targets in the coastal strip overnight, the army said.

Violence feeds the anxiety of a new war. The military wings of several Palestinian factions, including Hamas, declared themselves ready for war on Friday in a joint statement. Egypt is seeking a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

On Saturday morning, Palestinian militants again fired a rocket on Israel. Like ten previously fired missiles, the missile was intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system, the army announced.

On Friday, about 16,000 Palestinians gathered at various locations along the Gaza border, according to military reports. Some of them threw explosives and stones at Israeli soldiers. Israeli air forces attacked three Hamas posts in the northern Gaza Strip during protests.

Since the end of March, more than 200 Palestinians have been killed during partially violent demonstrations on the Gaza border. The protesters are calling for the lifting of the Gaza blockade, in force for more than a decade, as well as for the return of Palestinian refugees to areas now owned by Israel.

The Gaza Strip has more than two million inhabitants. There is a lack of drinking water and electricity, among others. Hamas' decision in the Gaza Strip is clbadified by the United States, the European Union and Israel as a terrorist organization.
