Large parts of Italy are hit by storms and heavy rains. In a house in Sicily, nine members of a family drowned.
Floods on the island of Sicily in southern Italy, killed ten people, including nine members of a family drowned in their homes. As the emergency services announced on Sunday, the victims were children aged 1, 3 and 15 years old.
The bodies of the affected family were found in their home in Casteldaccia, near Palermo. They drowned when a small river near the house overflowed the banks. Three other members of the family were able to stay safe, as reported by the news agency Agi.
According to the agency, a 44-year-old service station operator died Saturday night in the suburb of Vicari while he wanted to bring in a worker for help. Two people were still missing. Already at the beginning of the week, heavy rains had caused flooding in Sicily. Many roads were impbadable, schools remained closed.
The number of deaths in thunderstorms that have raged for several days in Italy has thus risen to at least 30. Since the beginning of the week, there have been violent storms and storms in many parts of the country.
