About 1000 men and women from Germany and other countries took part in the 54th Sundschwimmen on Saturday. Due to the strong wind, a road along the coast was chosen

The strong wind stirred the 54th Sundschwimmen on Saturday in Stralsund. Instead of Altefähr on the island of Rügen launched the approximately 1000 participants of Parow on the coast. "Because the wind was too strong, the participants swam along the coast," said a spokesman for the German Lifesaving Society. Everything went very well.

The oldest dirt road swimming in Germany was attended by about 600 men and 400 women. Despite the warm, sunny weather, the water temperature has only been 19 degrees due to the west current in recent days.

Tom Maron of Bremen won last year. He made the track of 2400 meters in 33 minutes and 49 seconds. For women, Ina Ziegler from Rangsdorf near Berlin took first place. It took 38 minutes and 22 seconds for the track.

The Sundschwimmen on the strait between Rügen and Stralsund has been running since 1965. The participants come mainly from Germany this year; but also swimmers from Austria, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg and Switzerland were at the start.
